Qualcomm Unveils Wi-Fi 7 Technology, Promising Gigabit Speeds and Low Latency

Qualcomm made waves at the 2022 MWC conference by teasing the release of Wi-Fi 7 technology. The company has since made good on its promise, introducing its all-new Wi-Fi 7 Pro chipsets. Qualcomm has pledged that these chips will deliver gigabit speeds and ultra-low latency, enabling faster and more seamless connectivity.

Qualcomm claims that a variety of industries are the target market for its new Wi-Fi 7 chipsets. These consist of mesh networking systems, professional home routers, and networking equipment for businesses.

In terms of specifications, Qualcomm offers its third-generation professional networking series with Wi-Fi 7 support across four different bands. These come in configurations supporting either three or four bands, with options ranging from 6 to 16 streams.

Wi-Fi 7 is not ready yet

In addition to the current 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands used as the main standard in current Wi-Fi technology, Wi-Fi 7 will be able to utilize 320 MHz channels on a wider scale. This means that the new technology will be able to double the throughput compared to the Wi-Fi 6 standard while providing ultra-low latency.

These specifications make the new chipsets the ideal solution for a wide range of practical applications. These include real-time online gaming, live streaming, and extended reality applications.

The new Wi-Fi 7 technology also supports Multi-Link Operation, which reduces interference and allows devices to use multiple radio bands simultaneously. This is designed to minimize latency even when connecting in a highly congested environment.

According to Qualcomm, this new technology will enable wireless connectivity to provide an improved communication environment for multiple users and enhance remote collaboration. It will also boost extended reality, the metaverse, and the gaming experience now and shortly.

It wasn’t long ago that we reached the Wi-Fi 6E standard, and devices based on this standard are still very rare. However, we are now witnessing the launch of the Wi-Fi 7 standard. In addition to Qualcomm, MediaTek and Broadcom have also announced their own Wi-Fi 7 standards. However, the new standard is not expected to be adopted until 2024.
