A great feature of iPhone is the automatic screen rotation based on the way and angle you hold the phone. You can enjoy videos, movies, and some games in landscape mode. However, we may sometimes face the problem of not rotating the screen no matter how much we try to change the angle of holding the phone. Some may think that there is a problem with the screen or the gyroscope sensor. In fact, this problem may come across everyone, but it is not the result of technical malfunctions in the phone. Therefore, we will introduce a simple set of proven-effective solutions to solve this issue.
1- Turn off iPhone Screen Rotation Lock
The Screen Rotation Lock setting prevents your iPhone from auto-rotating its screen no matter how you turn the device. If your screen won’t rotate, it is better to turn off this feature from the Control Center. To check whether the screen rotation lock is turned on, look at the top of the screen next to the battery indicator for an icon that looks like an arrow curving around a lock. If you see that icon, the screen rotation lock is turned on and you should disable it.
2-First, Make Sure Your App Supports Auto Screen Rotation
Not every app and game support automatic screen rotation. You must first check whether the app you are using supports the auto-rotate feature or not. Some apps are designed to only work in one orientation, so don’t expect the screen to rotate whatever you try. For example, the home screen on most iPhone models can’t rotate, though it can on the Plus and Pro models with extra-large screens.
In the end, you have first to make sure that your phone supports the automatic screen rotation feature on the app you are using. If you want to confirm whether the problem is caused by a malfunction in the phone or the problem is with the application itself, try an app that you know does support rotation on all iPhone models, like the Safari app. If it turns out that the screen rotates normally, then the problem is with the application you are using.
3- Turn off Display Zoom
Display Zoom is a cool feature that enlarges the icons and texts to make them easier to see, especially for those with weak eyesight. But if the screen won’t auto-rotate any application and the Screen Rotation Lock isn’t on, Display Zoom could be the culprit. The only solution is to disable it so that the accelerometer sensor works again normally in all apps.
4- Restart Your Device
Another good, quick solution for an iOS device is not only for those whose screen won’t auto-rotate but is also great at solving most of the problems we encounter while using the phone. If you tried all the ways we talked about above, and the screen won’t auto-rotate, then you have no choice but to restart the iPhone again. This attempt will try to empty the RAM from all the processes that may be the cause of any conflict between the system and applications, and the screen may be able to auto-rotate normally afterward.
5– If All Attempts Fail, Your Gyroscope May Have a Problem
If the app you are using definitely supports screen auto-rotation, and you tried all the above but got nothing, there could be a problem with your device’s gyroscope sensor. These sensors are easily damaged and exposed to many malfunctions for multiple countless reasons. So, a maintenance check-out for your iPhone and the gyroscope sensor is a perfect idea.
