How to Turn on the SOS Flashlight on Samsung Galaxy Phones

If you are in an emergency and need to attract attention, you may always use the SOS beacon feature on your Samsung Galaxy phone. The SOS flashlight feature on Samsung phones is one of the most noticeable hidden features that may be used to draw attention. In this article, we’ll teach you how to uncover this secret feature and activate it quickly.

What does SOS mean?

The SOS signal was originally developed as a Morse code distress call for emergencies. It is recognized worldwide and is mostly used in maritime applications. While some people mistakenly believe that SOS refers to the phrase “Save Our Ship” or “Save Our Souls,” the term itself has no meaning.

How to activate the SOS flashlight on Samsung Galaxy phones?

The steps are very easy, however, it is preferable to change the phone language to English for explanation purposes only, and then you can change the phone language back to Arabic. Unfortunately, this feature is completely hidden on Samsung Galaxy phones and cannot be accessed by long pressing the flashlight button in the notification panel as you do with many other functions.

Activating the SOS signal on Samsung Galaxy phones requires enabling the Edge Panel feature first. Follow the steps below to activate it:

  • Open the Settings app, then open Display settings, and enable Edge Panels.
  • Now tap on the same menu go to Edge Panel and choose Tools.
  • This way, the Edge Panels have been activated on your Samsung phone.
  • To open the Edge Panels, you will need to swipe inwards from the Edge Panel handle located on the side of the phone.
  • Keep swiping on the panel until you reach Tools and now click on the three vertical dots button at the top right of the Edge Panel and click on Flash Light – just click on the flashlight button to turn it on.
  • At the bottom, you will notice the appearance of the SOS button. Click on it and immediately the flashlight will start flashing the SOS signal.

That’s it. Note that you cannot control the brightness level of the light while the SOS feature is activated. This is because naturally reducing the brightness reduces the chances of someone seeing your signal.

Samsung Galaxy phones are known for their many excellent and professional features, useful in a wide variety of situations. One often overlooked feature is the ability to use the flashlight to generate Morse code, a valuable tool for emergencies, particularly in the dark.
